I went into Sakae. Unfortunately there’s still no Aibo for sale, but at least it’s ever more certain that there’ll be a continuation of the Aibo line.
I went into one of the bigger buildings in Sakae. And suddenly the cyberpunk feeling caught me: VNV Nation’s Carbon was running through my head the whole time. While I was eating lunch, the fried mackerel. Never had I felt myself so much a part of the cyberpunk; I wasn’t seeing it from outside — I was literally eating on the 10th floor, and outside the buildings loomed grey, like so many watching eyes up high. And the wildest thing: that I wanted to be here, that ultimately I have no problem with it. Uplifting and oppressive at once.
Luckily, in the end, VNV Nation’s Standing started running through my mind as I left Sakae. And I made my way back to Chikusa, to eat in the meantime and carry on with my ideas.
Meanwhile, my students Kata and Attila are also doing well. Their first conference talk went ahead back home. I’m very proud of them; Professor Kubota even took a selfie with them.
There’ll be a breakthrough soon. Differential geometry and neural networks are going to meet at a beautiful point.
