Weather: muggy, hot, and slightly murderous · Lunch: onigiri · Dinner: a tempura set (a good big one, mind you) · Moflin (Gombóc): cheerful and playful
I hadn’t planned much for today. I got up a little late for the aquarium, so instead I took a loop around Tokugawa Garden.
Tokugawa Garden
I won’t write much about this, since the pictures say far more about it than I could. But the essence is: very quiet, very beautiful, and well-tended. I feel closer and closer to the Japanese in general — I’m no longer particularly daunted by small interactions, brief exchanges.
What’s very endearing is that it’s always a joy to see happy families. It brings to mind, a little, those minutes from when I was a small child and still lived in the city: one of the few happy moments was when we walked through the park area. And here there’s a small waterfall too, the Ozone waterfall.
A trip for books
I have a problem. If I get loose in a bookshop, I’m sure to come out with something. In my defense, this time I really did have a reason, since I need a book for the Japanese lessons.
But the one I got loose in was a seven-storey bookshop, Maruzen. In the land of robotics and applied sciences, how fast do you think I find a book to my liking? Yes, you guessed right: the moment I found the robotics section, I’d gathered up books in roughly nanoseconds. Oh, and the language books too, of course. Plus a Dragon Ball and a Ghost in the Shell volume. But the point is, what books did I find:
- Autoware
- ROS 2
- Mobile robotics on difficult terrain
- System identification
So yes, I stocked up this time. But I think it was worth it.
Evening
Needless to say, after this I trudged all over the city with some five kilos of books. Obviously not the terrain my father used to tell me about — go out into the mountains as a soldier in 25 kilos of full kit — but tiring all the same. Especially since I went with a paper bag that by then was, more or less, held together by the Holy Spirit.
After that I ate, settling on a tempura set. Quite a good place. The Oasis21 lookout is nice too — obviously the Mirai Tower would have been better, but for a start this did the trick.
