Small Nuances and an Evening in the Park

A more restful Sunday: months of fatigue catching up, curry udon, a few everyday Japanese small things (from the powder toilet cleaner to the daily 500 yen) — and a zen-like evening walk in Tsuruma Park.

Weather: overcast · Lunch: curry udon with tonkatsu (yum) · Dinner: — · Sleep: fine, though I realised I’m very tired

I got up a bit late. I realised that months of fatigue have caught up with me now. Lately I get up with difficulty, and I could still have slept more. So I went for a brief walk, then went back to sleep.

I did go out for lunch, though — to eat a curry udon this time. I can report: the “performers” I saw yesterday were still practising at the spot. As I went to Wakashachiya, they kept practising. I swear, one of these times I’m going to ask what this is.

Smaller daily nuances

Often I don’t write much anymore, because I feel I’ve settled in relatively well. There really are a lot of small moments here that are nice, and that make my life comfortable relatively cheaply — or that are a little unusual seen from Hungary.

I’ll dive into a strange topic: toilet cleaning. In Hungary we know it: bleach, scrubbing, brush. There are such products here too, but I decided to try the powder toilet cleaner. Picture a good strong chemical in sachets that foams up nicely, like in some Stephen King apocalypse version. I swear, when I poured the sachet in, I was just thinking about when it would escape to cause an apocalypse and cover the whole earth with this chemical. Luckily that didn’t happen, only the white foam stayed in my toilet. Supposedly it makes it nicely clean and quite fragrant — half an hour of action time, we’ll see.

What do I tend to buy every evening? Not much. Mineral water, oolong tea, and a fruit tea that’s more of a syrup. Practically I leave 500 yen at the shop a day, not much more. The exception, of course, is when I buy detergent or something similar.

Evening in the park

I decided to take another loop in the park in the evening — as an evening walk this time. I have to say, it’s the same calm park as in the afternoon, and I felt just as safe. Essentially I walked around the park to find the new place where I’d eat.

I ate at the Food Factory. Not a bad place, the food is quite tasty — this time I had a pizza. I’d developed a craving for hot dough food; sure, udon is hot too, but you get it. This time I wanted slightly European flavours.

The park is stunning at night. On the way back I practically took a loop to the MaxValue. I don’t want to say much about what the park is like, what I saw, what I heard (though really, what didn’t I hear): let the photos of Tsuruma garden stand here now as a zen experience!
